Sacred Milestones of His Life

Each milestone — from descent to liberation — is honoured in Jain tradition as a kalyanaka: an auspicious turning of the cosmic wheel, where divinity meets earth.

I
Chyavana Kalyanaka · Descent

A Heavenly Descent

From the celestial realms a noble soul descended into the womb of Queen Prithvi. The night was visited by sacred dreams — radiant, prophetic — heralding the arrival of an extraordinary being. Across the heavens and the earth a hush of reverence settled, and the Ikshvaku city of Kashi prepared for an auspicious birth.

II
Janma Kalyanaka · Birth

Auspicious Birth on Jyeshtha Shukla Twelve

On the twelfth day of the bright fortnight of Jyeshtha, in the sacred city of Varanasi, the prince was born. His parents — King Pratistha and Queen Prithvi — beheld a child whose presence was light itself. Devas and devotees rejoiced; the city rang with celebration, prayer and song.

III
Royal Years · The Palace

The Quiet Sovereign

Raised amidst the splendour of an Ikshvaku palace, the young prince mastered the arts of statecraft, learning, and martial grace, yet his heart remained touched by a deeper longing. Even crowned and surrounded by riches, his gaze always sought the horizon — the silence beyond all sound.

IV
Realisation · Vairagya

The Awakening to Impermanence

Witnessing the slow turning of the seasons, the inevitability of decay, the brief radiance of human joy, his soul stirred. Not in despair, but in clear-eyed knowing: that all of this passes, and only the soul endures. From this seeing arose the firm resolve to renounce.

V
Diksha Kalyanaka · Renunciation

The Setting Aside of the Crown

With perfect equanimity he relinquished the kingdom, the ornaments, the very threads of worldly attachment. He plucked his hair in five sacred handfuls, took the great vows, and entered the path of the muni — homeless, possessionless, immeasurably free.

VI
Tapasya · Inner Fire

Years of Tapasya and Meditation

In forests of stillness he stood unmoving as carved stone. Sun and storm passed over him; hunger and silence were his companions. Through unbroken austerity and luminous meditation, layer upon layer of karmic veils thinned and dissolved.

VII
Kevala Kalyanaka · Omniscience

The Dawn of Infinite Knowledge

When the final veil fell away, all-knowing, all-perceiving, infinite-bliss and infinite-energy arose within him. As Kevali, he stood in luminous omniscience — and from that fullness flowed the ford-making teaching, opening a path for countless souls.

VIII
Moksha Kalyanaka · Liberation

Moksha at the Sacred Peak of Shikharji

On the sixth day of the dark half of Phalguna, atop the holiest of peaks at Shikharji in the Parasnath hills, the soul of Suparshvanatha Bhagwan rose beyond all bondage — pure, undivided, eternally awake. The mountain has remembered him ever since.

He gave away a kingdom and gained the universe. He surrendered a name and became formless. This is the geometry of true sovereignty.

What His Liberation Bestowed Upon the World

His path did not end at Shikharji — it began for every soul still learning to walk it. The temples, the scriptures, the iconography, and the daily acts of devotion across centuries are the living continuation of his light.
